Third at Five captures a quiet moment on the third hole of Pinehurst No. 5, where sunlight breaks through a clearing Carolina sky onto the rolling green fairway below. Framed by a pair of towering longleaf pines, the composition draws the eye past twin sand bunkers to a dogwood in full bloom, its white blossoms glowing against the deep green tree line. The layered clouds overhead suggest a storm just passed, leaving the course washed in soft, textured light. Rendered in oil on canvas at 20 x 30 inches, this piece captures both the architectural character of the Sandhills course and the stillness golfers know well between shots.
